In the beginning was the raging ocean that covered everything. the earth was engulfed in total darkness and the Spirit of God was moving over the water (Genesis 1:2). Then God said,” and now we will make human beings, they will be like us and resemble us” (Genesis 1:26). So human beings are exactly like
God. (1 Thessalonians 5:23), shows that man was created as a spirit, he possesses a soul and lives in a body. (John 4:24), says God is a Spirit. So, when God created man in His own likeness, it was in Spirit form. The soul is the most precious creation that God gave to man; for what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mathew 8:36-37).

The soul is comprised of the mind, will and emotions. The strongest man on earth is the one who’s mind is exactly one with God because he or she performs only the will of God. The will makes the soul the most important creation in a man since it can choose to comply with God or rebel against Him. Anyone who rebels against God is a dead being though he or she may be alive. This is because only in God will you find the fullness of life and out of Him is death. In a broad way, death or life of man occurs when the mind of a person is either controlled by the spirit or by the body. For the mind governed by the flesh is death but the mind governed by the spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6).

The soul cannot control itself; it has to be controlled by either the spirit or the body. Since the body is the one that is in the natural world, it receives information from the world, passes it to the soul which then passes it to the spirit. The spirit responds to the soul and the soul responds to the body. If the spirit interprets the information as unrighteous the body agrees with it but due to its feelings, it stresses the soul to allow it to perform the action. If the spirit interprets the information as righteous, the body still agrees but does not want to perform that action.

Now the soul has the power to decide which to follow in order to produce the action; if it follows the spirit, then the spirit is strengthened and if the power of the spirit flows to the body then the body is strengthened. Strengthening the spirit or the body indicates that the next time the mind is attacked, the person will most likely find it easier to do what he or she had done last time, therefore following either the spirit or the body.
