Discussing on the tone of the Bible, let us look at another major scenario in the bible that confuses a lot of Christians. When the bible talks about repentance, people immediately begin to think and interpret it in a whole different way. They see as if the verse does not approve of their behavior and  it wants them to change or else they will go to hell. I find it so funny myself. So the people who do not actually understand what the Bible means by repentance, they end up feeling more guilty and ashamed.

But would the mention of the word repentance be in a harsh tone if Moses used it against the LORD? Pretty shocked at that right? Well, let us look at it. Exodus 32: 12-14 (kjv) “Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people (Moses speaking). Verse fourteen (14) says, “And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. WHAT! The LORD had thought of evil! Well yes He did and He repented of it. So this tells you that the bible does not use a harsh tone to talk to people about repentance. It is okay to think of evil, but it is not okay to execute it. In fact the bible commands you to be angry, it says, “be ye angry and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-32. God tells us to repent for our own good, He says, “ I am not willing that anyone should perish, so please repent” 2 Peter 3:9. That is a gentle and loving tone.

Another very good example that talks about the gentle tone of the Bible: The scenario where God talks to sinners directly. I want us to notice the tone God uses here, a very gentle, soft and loving tone. Isaiah 1:18 He says, “Come now, let us reason together”. Let us just pose there for a minute. The LORD of the universe, who seeks no ones advise, no one can council Him or tell Him what to do; in fact, in Isaiah 55:8 (NLT) He says, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” In the book of Enoch, Enoch says, “I saw ten thousand upon ten thousand before Him yet He sought council from no one”. This God now says to a sinner, the one who thinks God is out there to get him  for his sins, He says, “Come now, let us reason together”. Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best of the land.” Is not that good news from a loving God? Is that not a loving and soft tone? This is the tone of the Bible you read. Eventually you will find it fun, attractive and very interesting.
