Let’s talk about the right race, the only race that matters, the Race to Eternal Life. It is full of joy, victory and blessings. This is because you get to run it in Christ. The Bible says in the presence of God is fullness of joy (Psalms 16:11). He is able to do Great and Mighty things that we know not, He says “my ways and thoughts are as high as the heavens are above the earth (Isaiah 55:9), my people are doomed because they do not acknowledge me (Hosea 4:6), what I want from you is plain and clear: I want your constant love, not your animal sacrifices, I would rather have my people know me than burn offerings to me (Hosea 6:6). Why is this? because when you get to know Him, you’ll experience love and peace that surpass human understanding, you will wonder so much why you were running the wrong race and want nothing to do with it anymore; you will regret why you never started the right one early.
The Bible says remember your creator while you are young (Ecclesiastes 12:1). The best thing is that it is never too late to enter in this race, the Lord says, “Now let’s settle the matter, you are stained red with sin but I will wash you white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18). God’s grace is out there looking for anyone. He says “there are other sheep that belong to me but are not in this sheep pen, I must bring them too” (John 10:16), “I stand at the door knocking, if anyone here’s my voice and lets me in I will come in and eat with them” (Revelation 3:20).
The promises of God are true and He is never too late in fulfilling them. Seek your happiness in the Lord and He will fulfill the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4). He can give you more than you ever thought of achieving in the wrong race, wealth you did not dig, houses you did not build, command of the nations, look at Joseph, Daniel, David etc.
I was a victim of wondering why then does God not give me what I want? I saw as if He was slow in fulfilling His promises. But I learnt two things. One is that I was using God to fulfill my own desires, the cars and wealth that I desired, but the reality is I never got to achieve any of them. Of course, I ended up in frustration and believed that this “God helping you thing” was just Hocus pocus. Little did I know that God will never help you when you are in the wrong race. (Job 8:20) But God will never abandon the faithful or ever give help to evil people.
The second thing I learnt is even when you are running the right race, everything comes in God’s own perfect timing. The desires of your heart are things that can drift your focus from God and start running the wrong race once again because of deception. I learnt God wants to protect us from this, first mold us and make us mature enough in Him to receive those desires, so that when He blesses you abundantly, you will not drift your focus but give glory to Him. Moreover, use those desires to show people that
God is really there and they don’t need to run the wrong race anymore.
However, there might not be enough time to think anymore, no one knows the date or time that Jesus will come; neither the angels in heaven nor the son, the father alone knows (Mathew 24:36). Always tell yourself that it might be now, on which race will He find you in?
Death is also uncertain, no one knows his time of death, people die in accidents, others get sick now and die tomorrow, on which race will death find you in?
The wrong race will lead to destruction, eternal torture and crying. Solomon said I have accomplished great things, built myself houses and planted vineyards, piled up silver and gold from the royal houses, had all the women a man could want, then I thought about all I had done and how hard I worked doing it, and I realized that it didn’t mean a thing (Ecclesiastes 2:7-10).
When the finish line gets near, people running the wrong race will realize all they ever did was chase the wind because nothing can be compared to eternal life and everything on earth will be left on earth. But the people running the right race
will be happy, because their reward is waiting for them, the crown of life. Do you
want it? Then fight for it.
